DAYC: Developmental Assessment of Young Children

DAYC: Developmental Assessment of Young Children

Use the DAYC to identify children birth through 5-11 with possible delays
in the domains of cognition, communication, social emotional development,
physical development, and adaptive behavior. You’ll have five subtests
(one for each of the above domains) that you can administer separately or
as a comprehensive battery to individual children in about 10 to 20 minutes.
You will be able to identify infants and young children who may benefit from
early intervention.

Each of the five domains this test measures reflects an area mandated for assessment and intervention in IDEA for young children. Tailor your assessment
to your clients’ needs by assessing any combination of these domains. Involve parents and caregivers by interviewing them as part of the assessment process. The DAYC format allows you to obtain information about a child’s abilities through observation, interview of caregivers, and direct assessment. The DAYC may also
be used in arena assessment so that each discipline can use the evaluation tool independently.

The DAYC was normed on a national sample of 1,269 individuals, broken into
23 age groups. Characteristics of the normative sample approximate the 1996 census. The reliability of the DAYC has been studied, and evidence relating to content-sampling and test retest time sampling reliability is provided. Reliability coefficients range from .90 to .99. Standard Error of Measure (SEM) ranges from
1.5 to 4.74, with the majority smaller than 3.0. Reliabilities for children identified
as environmentally at-risk and biologically at-risk are .98 and .99. Compared to Battelle Screening, criterion-referenced validity, construct-validity, and content-description validity are provided.

Using the DAYC, you will obtain standard scores, percentile scores, and age equivalents. The test also gives you a General Development Quotient (GDQ) if
all 5 subtests are completed, but all subtests can be used independently for
each domain.

COMPLETE DAYC KIT INCLUDES: Examiner’s Manual; 25 each of Adaptive,
Cognitive, Communication, Physical, and Social-Emotional Scoring Forms; a 25
Mini Poster-Pack of Early Child Development Chart, 2E (11" x 17," folded,
